Hi Group. My name is Kelli and I am 41. I was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Cancer on May 1 of this year. I have gone through three rounds of chemo (cisplatin, 5FU and taxotere). Today I started my chemo (ciplatin) and radiation phase for the next 7 weeks. I am just wondering if there are any long-term survivors of this cancer. It is in my head, 2 lymph nodes in my neck anda small spot on my pelvis. I am just feeling overwhelmed because I really don't know of anyone who has this cancer. I am feeling sad and angry...but I want to be hopeful. Most days I am but today has been hard. Thanks for reading!

Hi Kelli,
I have definitely heard of it.Head and neck ca is somewhat common and there are whole depts. dedicated to it. Perhaps there is a group of people who are on another site. Try inspire.org.
Sounds like you are being treated in a powerful way. How are you doing? Where are you going for treatment?

Hi Kelli
I have not heard of this type of cancer, what are your symptoms?, I really pray that you will beat it and meanwhile the treatment is tolerable, I think most of us are angry and sad with cancer, its like a thunderbolt to our existence, but many do survive and years after are still here to tell us.
God bless you Helen

Hi...just got your message. My cancer too was caused by a virus -- epstein
barr. I've never smoked or drank so it came as a complete surprise. My
cancer is in my head, neck and very small spot on pelvis. I just finished
week one of chemo/radiation. How is your radiation going? I've heard that
about week three it is awful and you can't swallow! I'm feeling pretty
good right now. Where are you being treated? I am being treated at
Vanderbilt in Nashville and also here in Evansville, IN where I am from.

It is nice to know of someone else who has close to the same thing -- I
mean, I'm not glad we have cancer, but some days I really feel all alone in
my cancer!

Hi

I also had inoperable throat cancer caused by a virus. Mine was the HPV
type. I went through chemo and radiation treatments at Dana Farber in
Boston. I am now three years cancer free due to the treatments I received
and feeling great with minimal side effects. I had a feeding tube inserted
due to recommendation

Charles, The odds of your type of cancer are so very good and I just know
that you will be fine. My doctor at Dana Farber told me that throat cancer
caused by a virus has much better odds of success than other causes. I've
been cancer free for three years now and feel wonderful. I am so very
thankful for the treatments that have been discovered to cure my throat
cancer. Yes, you still have a few more weeks of misery but it is all so
very worth every minute of discomfort knowing you will be a survivor.

Hi Kelli,
Was reading the posts in response to your original post. How are you doing with the radiation? Thinking of you as I say a prayer.

Hi Kelli, sorry for all you are going through with your cancer. lots of us living with the disease agree it is like being on a rollar coaster. I have been up, down and stable with the different phases of this disease . Stay as positive as possible and live one day at a time . We are all going through the same thing, never knowing what tomorrow might bring. hang in there; best wishes for you. Marilyn
