Nasal pharyngeal cancer-- severe headaches and earaches

Posted by murielk88 @murielk88, Jun 30, 2016

Hi I am Muriel
I found out 3 months ago that I had a nasal pharyngeal tumor , dealing with severe headaches and earaches for a long time before finding out.
I wonder if anyone could guide me on the recovery, i had 33 radiation sessions and two chimos already...Three more chimes to go I am scared, I have so much fatigue from the past two.

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Head and Neck Cancers group.

My tumor is on my tonsil and had no symptoms prior to finding it after metastasis to my neck. Just finished 20th radiation and 2 chemos. I can't eat except through my feeding tube. If you read about radiation you'll find that it causes fatigue as much or more than chemo. You must be almost finished with it?? Hang in there as you're getting close to the end.

Please research, research, I am using natural cures and sorry to say I;m still on medications.Little by little I am finding relief in these remedies. There is so much to learn. Please use juicing daily and then there are a few must haves on you shelf. And many you could add.

Thank you for your response cocobud,
You have no idea how scared I am I haven't done second treatment yet, I barely am recovering from the first, and taking these scary pills for 45 days are scaring me to death.
Especially they did a scope camera on my nose two weeks ago and told me they couldn't see the tumor anymore!!
The dr said just to make sure it hasn't spread in my body, but I had so many scans before treatment it was only localized in the back of my nose, not even a lump in neck or anywhere around??
Why would it spread during treatment after chimo and radiations??

Hi Muriel! I am a 6 1/2 year naso-pharynx cancer. The treatments for our type of cancer is harsh. I had 34 radiation treatments (radiation treatments will make you very tired, but that will go away in time), 3 out patient chemo treatments, and then got so terrible sick, they admitted me each time for the next 3. The feeding tube is your life saver, I had mine for 9 months before I felt I could eat in order to keep my weight up. Your throat will get better, just attempt maybe protein shakes to attempt to keep your weight reduction from being so much. I lost 47 pounds and weighed 145 when my treatments began. Ask God to guide you through and hold your hand, and he will see you through this horrible treatment process, and there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I will not lie, you WILL have many many long term side affects from both radiation and chemo. I have hearing loss in both my ears and have set of hearing aids, continued fluid on years and have had tubes about 3 times a year (since my damage to my ears does not allow tube to stay in my left ear longer than 3 mths), severe dry mouth (bottled water has become my best friend. My dry mouth gets so bad at times it becomes hard to speak), severe pain in my neck and shoulders (I have steriod injections about every 3 months to help with the pain. I went through 6 weeks of PT with no relief of pain), constant congestion in my nose (which makes it hard to breathe when lying down and other times like in winter months with colds and flu. I rinse several times a day, plus my ENT ordered me a suction machine to assist with it), I also have a scared palate which has limited me to what I can eat (I still stick to the soft foods and foods with gravy. I have not had NO MEAT except some small pieces of white meat chicken with NO CRUST. It has just become too much of a hassle to prepare meat so I can eat it, and every attempt I have done trying to eat I have become choked. So meat is no longer on my menu along with other foods. You will just have to just try and see what you can eat and feel comfortable. I fought depression, not really knowing what it was, and have just in the last couple months discussed with my doctor and he has diagnosed me with depression and has me on medication for such. He says it is completely NORMAL for cancer patients to become depressed and remain depressed over the years due to lingering side affects from treatments. When disability was mentioned to me at the beginning of my treatments I refused, and stated I would fight this, and I would go back to work. Well as bad as I hate to admit, I wasn't able to return to work. December 2014, I applied for disability and was denied, everyone told be to get an attorney too which I did and I am presently waiting to get a court date (in my state there is a 2 year waiting period to receive a court date). This is I am sure what you were not wanting to hear, but I wish I had someone that would have been honest with me, and give me an idea of some of the possibilities. Good Luck, it is not easy, just ask the good LORD for a helping hand, and pray daily.
