New to the cancer seen.

My husband 58 years young had been a heavy smoker but had stopped in 2007. About 4months ago started with sore throat. And thrush. Never went away. Finally told me he had a hole in his throat so made him another Dr apt. He sent him to ENT. Insurance takes it sweet time now another month has past its gotten bigger. On to Springfield Missouri to another ENT surgeon this time. He did violet. Yes it's cancer soft palet of throat. Surgery we ill cause trouble swallowing probably teach and feeding tube till get reconstruction. We were pretty sure it was cancer. But know he wants to do a pet scan. Another 2weeks before insurance well decide. When did it became the insurance job to tell the doctors what they can or can or due. By the time everything gets liked. It might not be able to operate. Just learning need help

Hi @mzsadie- so sorry that you and your husband are having to deal with this. Navigating the healthcare system can be so frustrating-- I am so sorry that you had to experience delays because of insurance. How are you doing?

Kat, So sorry for you and husband. Are you sure you're seeing the right kind of doctors. Why internist . Have the mention of Chemo or radiation. I may be wrong but call a cancer center, That I would do immediately.

Thanks, he is greetings frustrated. We seen the doctor on Monday and they never got to us so Monday I am going to gave to make a bunch of phone calls. You would think they would treat every patient the same ans,all get fast results because time is not for every one. I am doing ok. I know just enough about health fare to make the doctors. Stop and,answere the hard questions and they don\'t like it thanks for the reply<br />

Hi. Thanks to you that have listened. It's so confusing with no one person hiding the w as y. Does anyone know how-to get s someone to help with this. We get phone calls setting up future appointments but still trying to get insurance to pay fir pet scan. When I was in health care patients got case workers to help but guess that isn't the case anymore. Doctor threw so much at us at first day it didn't all sink in. Got a call from a des office that was referred by his surgeon but didn't say what it was for. Called them back they wouldn't tell me anything Saud had to call Dr that made apt. No one explains who's on first. If anyone understands. Frustrated still nothing being done for my husband just the paper pushers. Thanks fir,"listening"'

No, I am just trying to find answers and help on what to do before my husband can not get help. It's a darn waiting game. Thanks

Very frustrating; your husband needs to see an ENT physican that specializes in cancer. Treatment is typically some combo of surgery, chemo and or radiation. Make appointments now and deal with insurance company later. you can always cancel an apt

Hi everyone that has been listening to my concerns and thank you. We finally got the Dr to explain slot of whys and etc. I didn't like some of his answers but then I spoke my mind and got respect. He is going in to have tumor removed and reconstruction done on the 15th of Dec. Yes it is longer than I wanted as he had feel thru the cracks of the system. Of course with the holidays and all didn't help. Sounds like we get to be in hospital for Christmas. But by then with slot of work he would be close to coming home. The road is going to be ruff. But I am hoping for the best. I still get sad thinking about what my husband has to go thru when it really was caught and should have been felt with before now. Scared what the long term problems are going to be. Hope you all had a good thanks given. Well keep you posted on how it goes. Trying to be supportive. God bless kat
