Voice-sparing treatment: Options?

Posted by suggi @suggi, Jan 23, 2017

Is it true that laporascopy surgery is safer than radiation as far as saving the voice, swallowing, etc.?

A very good and difficult to answer question without a simple answer. It somewhat depends on where the cancer is located and what type of radiation is being used. Some radiation is more precise than others. I suggest that you ask the surgeon and radiation oncologist you are consultng to tell you based on their experience what the risk to voice and swallowing are. Sorry i cant answer more simply

I don't know anything about that surgery, I had 45 treatments for
lung cancer and another 10 to the brain as a precaution. The side
effects have been bad for me. First the brain fog and then my hair
hasn't come back enough to go without a hat or wig. Goods news
is, I'm still in full remission after 3 years. There's a compromise to
everything. Oh, the radiation was given at the same time as chemo.

My laparoscopic surgery was done with robots, with minimal incisions. It helped me recover faster and I was able to start chemo only 3 weeks after colorectal surgery. I am not sure if its safer or not.
