We went to the new oncologist & she was very happy Eric's tumor had shrunk since his last scan. Since it had decreased & was still localized she wants to give his body a rest from chemo so his blood can rebound & his body also. In December she will repeat with a Pet Scan, if at that point there is growth then chemo options will be discussed. If not she will follow w/a Cat Scan 3 months later. She doesn't want to do chemo if tumor isn't showing signs of growing & would rather he just rest his body from 2 yrs. of weekly chemo treatments.

The dr he was seeing for the last 2 yrs. at Dana-Faber said no more chemo ever or scans of any kind. When I asked why no scans so we would know if the cancer had spread to other organs or was rapidly progressing he said there was no need to know.

We got to very different opinions here. I feel comfortable w/the new oncologist, I do however wonder why the dr. at Dana-Faber has just given up & its something I will always wonder about. yes he reacted badly to the Docextere even in small doses but in truth it shouldn't have been given that day since his white blood cell count was only at 3.3 already below the normal range, plus he had a small infected wound near his trach. The NP made the wrong call & almost killed my husband. Why an oncologist would say no more scans or chemo ever when the cancer is still localized truly baffles me & always will.

Hi @dianelinda, so glad that you are such a good advocate for your husband and have continued to ask all the right questions & get second opinions. Thank you for sharing so that we could all be reminded of the importance of being your own advocate.
