Tissue Agnostic Genomic Based Treatment--Share Your Thoughts

Posted by charles @charles, Nov 27, 2018

I wanted to share a recent blog about the FDA approval of a 2nd "tissue agnostic" cancer drug. All patients should understand this emerging shift in how cancer can be treated. Its happening quickly, will create confusion, take awhile to be incorporated into how doctors evaluate and manage a cancer, and change how information on cancer treatment is accessed and paid for. Please read and share your thoughts: https://mavendoctors.io/cancerconnect/newly-diagnosed/tissue-agnostic-genomic-based-treatment-a-paradigm-shift-in-cancer-treatment-x7ghnFjF10yDRzE3g4l0vQ/

Thank you so much for posting this info.

My molecular diagnostics said that there were mutations or amplification detected in my AKT1 and CTNNB1.

Other than that, I don't really understand the report on my testing. I think I was told I wasn't a candidate for specific treatment based on those results.

Maybe one day instead of cancer hospital floors being organized by practice, they will be organized by tumor markers?

Molecular testing in performed on the actual cancer cells which must be obtained by biopsy or sometimes can be found circulating in the blood: "a liquid biopsy" https://mavendoctors.io/cancerconnect/carcinoma/what-is-a-liquid-biopsy-RhNRHhsp3US8xluuHhLzOQ/

Dear All,
I am honored to be a part of this important “family” at Cancer Connect. The platform that Charles has created in providing education, research, support and connection to a cancer audience is so valuable. As a 12-year survivor of pancreatic cancer I know only too well the fear, frustration, confusion, and loneliness that comes with a diagnosis. One gift from this disease was learning to ask for help. As an independent woman, I never want to inconvenience anyone and have had an unreasonable mindset that I can do this on my own. I learned the value of vulnerability and the many gifts that are delivered to the donor and the receiver. The platform at Cancer Connect is so valuable - to be able to share, learn and better understand personal situations and know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Please continue to reach out and know that we all value, care and appreciate your stories. Laurie
