Stepdad has Stage 4 Laryngeal Cancer

Posted by sammy1956 @sammy1956, Aug 22, 2019

My Stepdad, Sammy has Stage 4 Laryngeal Cancer. He was just diagnosed about 1 month ago. Unfortunately, he doesnt have insurance. Everywhere we've turned for help has denied him. Now, we are awaiting MD Anderson Cancer Center's reply. If they don't accept him and if we can't raise $125,000+ then he's supposedly going to die within 90 days. Has anyone been in this predicament and found funding?

Yes but its a fair amount of work. MDACC and other cancer centers have social workers that can help determine if he is eligible for Medicare (over 65) Medicaid (low income) or other assistance programs. He can look at clinical trial participation which often helps cover the cost of care and consider setting up a "go fund me" page in your home town.

Might he be eligible for VA ( Veterans Assistance)?
He would need an honorable discharge from the military.
And there are some cancer specific programs at VA due to exposures
