My husband finished his treatment (35 rads and 3 chemotherapies) on April 5th this year, his cancer was in his neck and back of the tonge. He has been told that the cancer has gone and has to go back to see his oncologist in July. However he is still having problems with his mouth and tongue (ulcers and a white coating) Everything that he has been given doesn't seem to work. We both thought that this would have cleared. Anyone experienced any long term after effects ??

I had a white tongue. Is was a fungus brought on by steroids I was taking.
So I was given an oral medication to take for 10 days. It is working.

Can you make an appt to have it looked at? White usually means fungus.

My husband had the same problem--ulceration, white tongue, loss of taste, dry mouth. It was fungal infection and the doctors gave an antifungal antibiotic for 10 days. He was also prescribed an anesthetic oral spray to have just before food to avoid irritation while eating. Its going to be 3 months now but the taste has not returned nor has the dryness gone. Docs say it will take some more time.

He's now been prescribed a weeks course of anti fungal tablets so let's see if that helps . I have been talking to his oncologists who said that it could last 3 - 4 months even longer. He's really had a bad time with this but hopefully it will clear soon. Maybe then he can start to eat solid food as he is still reliant on the feeding tube. Thanks for your comments x

Thanks kavita Phil has had a dreadful time with this and is still using his feeding tube as his mouth is so sore with the ulcers and this fungus. He has been given all kinds of sprays and drugs to no avail. However he has now started a weeks course of anti fungal tabs so hopefully the may ease it. He also suffers from the dry mouth but thankfully the mucous has gone. His oncologist says it could take 3-4 months even longer but hopefully it will become easier x
