New diagnosis of Vocal Cord Cancer

Posted by Bob @yensid, Aug 4, 2016

I have just been diagnosed with cancer of the vocal cord (it hurts to admit that!). My PCP says the report indicates that it is in situ and I should respond well to treatment. I've had a consult with radiation oncology. It seems there's 5 1/2 weeks of radiation ahead. With all of the info they gave me, I'm terrified. I feel as if my whole body is involved in this. I suppose I'm a hypochondriac, but I imagine that I have every cancer and other diseases know to man. Anybody have some encouragement or advice for me? Thanks.

I had squamus cell carcinoma of the vocal cords, if it is in situ and it's
an early diagnosis they should be able to laser it and get rid of it
completey as they did with me, there should be no need for radiation or
chemo, best of luck...Roy
I remember those same thoughts when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 3 years ago. I was really good at playing the "what if" game. Don't do that. Stay off the internet, there's a lot of old information on it. Don't go there. Stay positive and know you will get through this, you are stronger than you think, and God is working in your situation. Take one day or one hour at a time of you need to. Stay in touch. Prayers and blessings,
Ellie

Hi Bob, it happens to all of us. Once diagnosed it takes over our whole
being. The trick is to work through those emotions and instead of cancer
taking control, you figure out what you can do to help your body get better
and make it through the treatments. There are lots of books on specific
nutrition/ foods that kill cancer. Personally I think you can feel better
in control if you try seem of these suggestions like cutting black or out
sugars, eat healthy greens, avoid preservatives & chemical added to food,
drinks etc. Exercise helps too. Try them all and it helps you get back in
control which helps your body fight the disease. Yo are not aloe in this
fight. Good luck, Marilyn
