Hello, Group. I was wondering if anyone has had issues with getting approvals of insurance companies for PET scans, or chemo/radiation treatments. We had an initial PET scan scheduled, but it was cancelled b/c our insurance company had not approved the procedure. This has caused us great stress and has wasted valuable time. I don't think there is much we can do to help get this approved, but am wondering if we need to have each session of chemo or radiation approved by the insurance company -- we can't afford to waste any time.

I had a PET scan denied and ended up paying for it myself. It cost 1825.

I actually opened the mail today and see that my insurance company denied a ct scan w/contrast my doctor requested for early December. I had one in October that showed an irregularity that my doctor wanted to review again in 2 months. I don't know what's up with this. Maybe they will provide more detailed information as to why they want to do the scan and it will be approved.

We did need pre-approval from the insurance company, but the oncologist had no problem getting approval. They usually contacted the insurance company well in advance (at least 2 weeks).
