Head and neck

This is my first post on this site. I have T2 and T3 squamous small cell cancer of the throat and tongue base. They are intending to treat it with radiotherapy and or laser. I am not feeling very positive about this. I would appreciate any feedback from someone who has gone through similar.

Hi @juliecaroline, sorry you are having to deal with this! I am one of the moderators here and have messaged the other members of the head and neck cancer group to see if they can share their experience.

I had the same problem 5 years ago and had treatment as follows. Robotic surgery to remove cancer on tongue, throat and normal surgery to remove lymph nodes on right side. This was followed by radiation. During radiation I lost my taste and had a hard time eating resulting in a 30 # weight loss. Not fun but here I am 5 years later ,80% of taste back, 50 % of weight back (I did not need 100 % ) cancer free and loving life. Hope this helps and good luck. Joe
